Child Find - Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resource Systems (FDLRS)

FDLRS-South provides Child Find services by searching for potentially exceptional students, ages 0-21, who are not currently enrolled in public school, with emphasis on children 3-5 years of age. Child Find activities include:

Public Awareness:

Activities include media presentations on radio, television, and in the newspapers.  Presentations are also made at various conferences and meetings.

Pre-School Screenings

FDLRS-South also provides Pre-School screenings, free of charge, in cooperation with Child-care centers, health departments and other community agencies, to locate potentially handicapped children, ages 3-5 years.  Screenings may include vision, hearing, development, speech/language and behavior. 

Facilitates Diagnostic Evaluations:

FDLRS-South assists families in preparing referral packets, routes the packets to the Pre-Kindergarten Diagnostic Team closest to the families’ home, and tracks children through the Children’s Registry and Information System (CHRIS). Diagnostic evaluations, which are free of charge, may include: psycho-educational, psycho-social, speech/language, and audiological.
